Down the memory lane....
Himalayan Academy, a CBSE affiliated secondary, managed, maintained and run by Board of Directors, School Managing Committee under locally constituted Himalayan Educational Society, Soreng, West Sikkim, a local NGO is a fully Non-Proprietary Character.
On 1st march 1982, the day when Everny Nursery English School was first established at Soreng Bazar in a rented house. Mrs. Stella Gurung, the then Principal and Miss Pranita Lama (now Mrs) and Miss Rohita Lepcha (Nursery Miss) and few others had started teaching in the Everny Nursery English School with 54 students.
As Mrs Stella Gurung had quitted the job, the then School Committee made Mr. Lalit Rai, the Principal of the school. The name of the school had also been changed and renamed as Himalayan Nursery English School. Mr. Lalit Rai did not hold the post of the Principal from 23.11.1986 to Dec. 1987. He quitted the job. Then the School Committee resolved and promoted Miss Pranita Lama to the post of Principal from the academic session of 1988. She rendered her service as Principal till 6.5.2006 (16 years).
School Committee had resolved in Parents-Guardians meeting and upgraded the school to Junior Secondary Standard and started class VIII from the session of 2006-07. Now, as the school had needed a graduate with B.Ed. or a post graduate to hold the post of Principal, the School Committee appointed Mr. Jay Kumar Albert, M.A. (English) who had come from Pondicherry, Tamil Nadu.
In the mean time more graduate and some B.Ed. qualified subject teachers were also appointed. Mr. Jay Kumar Albert rendered her service as Principal upto the last of 2006. After a deliberate discussion and consultation, the School committee resolved to promote and appoint Mr. Keshav Prasad Chettri, M.A. B.Ed. to the post of Principal on 14.2.2007. Mr. Sanjeev Shah had been appointed as Vice-Principal.
On 31st August 2009, the Human Resource Development Department, Govt. of Sikkim, Gangtok had kindly awarded Registration No. 51/S/W/2009. to Himalayan Academy under Sikkim Education Act.- 2008. As a result of great efforts and deliberate endeavors, our Himalayan Academy could avail Affiliation from Central Board of Secondary Education, Delhi on 26.11.2010, with the Code No. 1830009.
Talents hunt, discovering interest of the school children and their skill development is our prime concern. Our Principal and the teachers as well as the non teaching staff are unceasingly working on these aspects and trying their level best.
